Following the partnership with Bitcoin PR Buzz, as well as the establishment of legal groundwork in France as a SCIC, ARK continues forth with the beta release of the mobile wallet, exposing the ARK cryptocurrency and ecosystem to a whole new demographic.

The wallet can send and receive ARK, voting for a delegate, with no need for a sync of the blockchain. The Android and iOS applications use the same codebase, which should keep a consistent experience for mobile users regarding of their smartphone choice.

Besides basic wallet functions, the mobile wallet can either import existing wallets or generate new passphrases for new users. The wallet will ensure utmost security by providing the ability to encrypt access to your profile through a custom 6-digit PIN secured with AES256+PBKDF2.

Users can change the PIN, backup their wallets, as well as clear data if they so desire.

The wallet supports connection to both the mainnet and the devnet, as well as support for multiple profiles. The wallet also allows the user to select which peer they choose to connect to, as well as overview of the network status, current market value alongside weekly movements.

The wallet was created using the Ionic framework as well as ARK’s TypeScript API, allowing the mobile application to interact with the ARK network. ARK encourages users to test out the wallet, to further help them iron out bugs and glitches before a full main release.

While the full application is available for Android phones, Apple is extremely difficult on approval of finance and cryptocurrency applications, so in the meantime, the ARK team has provided a workaround for iOS users.

Setting up ARK Wallet for IOS:

  1.    Install Ionic View – Test Ionic Apps
  2.    Open and click the eye at the bottom
  3.    Enter the ID 0894ffa2 and “View App”

The workaround is a temporary solution, and once Apple approves the application, users can download the app directly from the App Store as they would any other application. The only feature that is missing with this work around is the QR scanner.

Future updates coming to the wallet including Ledger Nano S hardware support, a dark theme for nighttime use, the ability to add custom network types, such as Kapu, Blockpool, or a user’s own ARK-based chain from 1 IP address.

The ARK team looks to integrate biometric support through fingerprint authentication, notifications of incoming transactions, adding ARK translations for more languages, as well as the ability to export generated passphrases to PDF.

There is no timeline on when these future updates will be rolled out or when Apple will approve the application for the iOS market.
